Here’s the thing about my dad. He’s the best dad I’ve ever met. I never remember a time when my dad wasn’t 100 percent behind whatever I wanted to do. When I hurt my back a hundred years ago in college and ended my dance career, it was my dad who suggested I study journalism. When I thought about writing a book, it was my dad who first said, it would be great. (I have to add, because she’ll read this, my mom is always right there with him.) When I called to tell them I sold my first book, dad said, “Well, of course you did.”
My dad knows a lot of stuff. Whether it’s calculus or something is wrong with the car, he’s the go to guy for most of the family. For years he’s been editing my stuff. He’s loaned me money through the years, helped my mom put me through college, bought me my first car (and how to drive it). He taught me how to ride a motorcycle, bought me a fake ID (funny story with that), how to play poker and so many things I could never list them all here.
But the most important thing about my dad, is that he loves me. And he makes sure I know it. Whether it’s hanging out with my kids or dogs so I can travel and make my dreams come true, or just chatting on the phone. My dad is ALWAYS there for me.
I’m blessed. And for those you who don’t have dads or your dad has moved on, my dad will virtually adopt you. He’s that nice of a guy. And I’m being a good kid right now, because I’m not calling him during the NASCAR races.
But I’m telling you guys, I have the best dad in the world. :)
