Dear Oprah,
You are amazing. I’m sure you probably know this, but I’m putting it out there. So far this year you’ve encouraged me to clean my house, take charge of my finances, get healthy and eat right. I can honestly say I’m doing okay with the first one, the second one is a little tricky, and I’m still not sure about the last two. (I really, really love food.)
Since you are on this kick about changing lives for the better, I have a suggestion for you that I think would be fun for your viewers and possibly change the world.
You should pick one or more of my books for summer reading. Oh, I know what you’re thinking. Every author in the world would like their books on your show. And I know these things are planned way in advance, but there’s a reason I think you should take a look at my books. They will bring people, who might be intimidated by some of your earlier choices, into the fold. Why? Well, I’m so glad you asked.
If you read the last line of the prologue in my first book, Charmed & Dangerous, you’ll see exactly what I mean. This is an easy, fast, read and you’re going to have some sexy fun along the way. What you don’t necessarily realize as you’re reading the book is you may be learning something about how women think, and empowering women. I can honestly say all of my heroines are empowered. I don’t do wimpy chicks.
All of my books cross genres and they have romance, action adventure, some magic and there is always a mystery to solve. It’s a way for you to bring readers of all of those genres together with one book.
I also touch on many causes that are close to your heart. There are the children in Africa in “Charmed & Deadly.” The abused women in “Charmed & Dangerous.” The hungry children in “Charmed & Ready.” Literacy in “Like A Charm,” and arts in schools in “The Demon King and I.” In my upcoming release “Dragons Prefer Blondes” (July 2009) I’m all about giving those in need a second chance and feeding the homeless. I don’t hit people over the head with it, but it’s there. I do that a lot with my books, bring up issues that give you food for thought, but I don’t get preachy.
I think your viewers might appreciate some lighter reads for the summer. Books that can be read on several levels. I can’t tell you how many emails I get from people who don’t normally read, who pick up my novels and can’t put them down. It’s one of the biggest compliments for me, to bring people into the world of books, who might not normally do so. Then there are those who do read, but they get me on a whole different level. They see what is between the lines and understand what I was trying to do. Those emails are pretty amazing too.
And I can promise you this: When you read one of my books, you’re going to smile at the end. I like happy endings, even though I send my characters through hell to get there.
So think about… And if you need more suggestions for books, oh, boy, do I have you covered. I look forward to hearing from you, Oprah. You are the best. (I realize that list bit is a little sucky uppy, but you are.)
Thank you

Ha! I actually wrote to the Oprah folks last year suggesting that the wonderful Oprah, who was so good at giving a voice to the disenfranchised (gay folks, fat people, etc.) could do a public service by introducing the TV audience to the modern witch. Pagans are victims of a lot of prejudice and propaganda, after all. Strangely, I still haven’t heard back…
Good luck getting her to read your books, though :-)
I think you should try sending your letter again. You never know. It might land in the hands of just the right producer. :-)
hmmm
good open letter. Do you think it might work?
Cleaning your house? wow!!!
As for the get healthy…an ongoing process!
Re: hmmm
LOL, about cleaning house. Yes. I’m getting rid of everything. Can’t stand clutter any more. Had one of the bouts last year, but now I’m all about the purging. :-)
As for the letter… Hey, I’m putting it out there. You never know. :-)
Nicely done! I don’t share your opinion of Oprah, but some of that would change if she’d actually add your book to her reading list. I hate the books she picks.

Y’know, that’s one thing that bugs me about Oprah. She picks the most damn depressing books for her book club. Gah!
I don’t usually read Oprah’s book picks. C’mon, they’re depressing! BUT, if she were to pick one of yours I’d be ahead of the curve. *G*

Oprah’s letter
ROFLMAO! Oprah really should call you! Come on… you did clean the house, it’s the least she could do.

Re: Oprah's letter
I know she’d love me if she gave me a chance. And she doesn’t have to worry about the stuff in my books not being true. It’s win win. :-)
Oprah
I predict your appearance on her show in the future, Candy! And it would be a nice change in her lineup to have some writers of popular fiction — like, say….you and mem to name two — on her show, rather than the literary type (though I love them, too!) I’ll be watching when you and Oprah talk books!

Dear Oprah
I was reading your blog and wondered, is there going to be a Bronwyn the Witch, Book 4?
