I missed the damn lions. Argh. I’ll explain in a minute.
This is has been what we call a death march day. Mine started earlier than most because I had to do radio. So I’ve been at it since about 4:45 or so this morning. There’s too much really, so I’m just going for highlights.
First up was was MTV Networks. Nickelodeon has a new Penguins of Madagascar cartoon coming in March, which I will watch cuz I love those darn penguins. Jesse James was here for Jesse James is a Dead Man. Not the most erudite guy, but interesting. I fell in LOVE with Demetri Martin. He wasn’t on my radar today, but now I’m trying to find everything he’s done. Brilliantly funny guy. New show begins Feb. 25. Also a big fan of the upcoming Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword, both of those on Comedy Central. Don’t let the name full you with Krod, it’s funny, funny stuff. Think Princess Bride meets Monty Python. Good stuff. My favorite part of the session was Brit Matt Lucas translating “American” for the gorgeous Sean Magurie. That series begins April 15. RuPaul wasn’t happy when he didn’t get the laughs he wanted during his Drag Race session. I’ll tell you this, the guy is six foot seven and I’d like to be as tall as his legs. He wasn’t in drag and he looks like a handsome, but super skinny basketball player. That one is on Logo.
MTV: T.I. seemed sincere about his Road to Redemption show. If he helps one kid, I guess it’s worth it. The new series from Matt Stone How’s Your New’s features people with disabilities interviewing celebrities. Jeremy Vest and Susan Harrington, two of the people from Camp Jabberwocky where here and absolutely charming. Their perspective was just so spot on. Loved it. I honestly thought it would be an ugly train wreck because Trey and Matt (South Park) are sort of known for that sort of thing, but this had a real sweetness and respect.
As I mentioned on Facebook and Twitter Patrick Swayze checked himself into the hospital today for pneumonia. I used to take dance lessons from his mom off and on, back in the day, and I had a big crush on him. I was 16 and he was I think in his late twenties so you can understand. Through the years he’s never changed. Always been the sweetest, most loving guy. He’s stellar in his show The Beast, which begins Jan. 15. Um, and I should mention his co-star Travis Fimmel is the hottest thing I’ve seen at press tour. ;-) Ohhh baby.
I skipped The Style Network and E. I’m sorry, I’m just done with the Kardashians.
HBO was so packed it was crazy. If you’re a fan of The No. Ladies Det. Agency, you won’t be disappointed in the new series. Jill Scott and Anika Noni should see Emmys in their future. I mentioned Taking Chance with Kevin Bacon. Everyone needs to see this film. I mean it. It’s based on the true story of Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, USMC (Ret.) escorting the body of a young soldier across country. I had no idea they did this, and this is one of the BEST films you will see this year. Yes it will make you cry, and it will also make you appreciate what makes this country so great. I’m all sniffly thinking about it now. Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange were delights. Grey Gardens looks to be a way for the lovely and self-effacing Barrymore to get folks to take her more seriously. She gives it her all in the film. Bill Paxton and the Big Love gang was here. I shouldn’t say this but you know how Chloe Sevigny’s character is kind of a snit on the show? I think she might be like that in real life. She was really negative and kind of whiny, she thought under her breath but we could hear her. LOL. Will Ferrell talked about his upcoming Broadway debut “You’re Welcome America: A Final Night with George W. Bush,” and he’s also the producer of “Eastbound and Down.” Funny side note. He told the story about meeting Bush for the first time. Everyone told Will that the candidate at the time wanted to meet him. That he loved Ferrell’s impressions. Ferrell went out to the SNL office to meet him and Bush had no idea who he was. Funny stuff.
I’m kind of mad at the Discovery Networks for making us stay late. (Long story) But I will say the Dallas DNA show looks interesting. It focuses on the Dallas County’s Conviction Integrity Unit where they are doing DNA tests on certain cases to help free innocent men.
There was the show about the Jockeys, but by that time I was so tired of sitting for 12 hours straight, that I had to leave. Not seeing that Walk the Lion was right after them. Sigh. I love lions. Not as much as tigers. But I really wanted to see it.
I did make a little party that BET threw tonight for their Harlem Heights show tonight. Had a chance just to chill and hangout. And um, I sort of partook of the frozen hot chocolate. It was kind of dark in there so I’m pretty sure those calories don’t count. ;-)
So tell me your plans for the weekend?
