Honey, I’m Home

Standard

I had one of those exhausting but wonderful weekends. I was the emcee for two different reader events, Readers and Ritas, and The Buns and Roses Tea. Lots of authors, even more readers and just so much fun I can’t even tell you. It’s been so long since I’ve laughed so much.

Some of my favorite buds Rosemary Clement Moore, Jaye Wells and Jodi Thomas were there but I also made cool new friends with Dakota Cassidy, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dianna Love, Lauren Wittig, Michele Bardsley, who were all guests at the Reader and Ritas. The readers were so cool. They really knew their stuff and it was all very intimate and fun. And I um, learned a few things. None of which I can share here, but let’s just say Wyatt Earp will never be the same to me. And Dakota, that wild woman. I have to find a way to party more with her. She makes me laugh. Oh, and Ali and her sis, hey you two. Check out their websites and buy their books. They are all very cool chicks.

This morning I had brunch with Sara, Gwen and the rest of the Fresh Fiction and DFW Tea gang. Sherrily and Dianna were there and we started swapping kid stories. I almost snorted eggs through my nose. I’m all about the being graceful thing. ;-) You know me, straight up class.

This afternoon was the Buns and Roses Tea. Massive fun for all involved. Sherrilyn was the guest speaker, and she made me tear up, which is never good when you’re the emcee, cuz you have to get up in front of all those people and be cheery. :-) I didn’t know her that well before this weekend, but she’s most definitely going on my favorite people list. As is her buddy Dianna Love. Well, in truth all the ones on that first list are going on there.

Oh, and there was a book signing with a multitude of authors on Saturday afternoon. I sat by the Lovely Kim Lenox (Her new book Night Fall Darkly just came out and I can’t wait to read it), Jana DeLeon, who never fails to make me laugh and Kerrelyn Sparks (love her books). The time went fast because we were having such a good time just hanging out.

My two biggest fans, Gennell and Chris, came up from San Antonio. Hi chicas! They went beyond the call of duty by buying books for me and getting them signed by the authors. Thank you girls. :-)

Okay… so that’s my weekend. What did you do? What are you reading? I have too many darn books now, I don’t know what ot read first.

  1. Sounds like a very eventful weekend! Mine wasn’t as jam packed, but went by just as quickly it seems. I’m still working on my synopsis but have also figured out my manuscript just may benefit a few extra cuts I hadn’t planned on making. It stinks when you think you’re finished with something and then you have an epiphany. I’m betting it’s for the best though.

I plan on reading a few different books in the next month or so. Twilight is on my definite list. I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. Also, a handful of MG fantasy to get me ready for Nanowrimo, one in which is Spiderwick, but some others as well I can’t think of off the top of my head. Hope you have a great week!

  2. Hugs and smooches. Candy you were GREAT!!!! and So upbeat even when we’re all tearing. You are fabulous!

It had been a while since the last time so I’m glad you were there all weekend. You did a fantastic job as always emceeing both events and those sessions were quite interesting, pink skinned cobras, Wyatt Earps, sex tape moms, and all. Looking forward to your coming book signing and launch party!

  4. I’ve got to try for next years Ritas. It sounds like you had a blast :)

I helped my sister with my nephew’s 1st birthday party/baptism over the weekend. It was a nice park, a bit windy but the food was in a net tent so not too much was knocked over.

I started reading Up In Smoke by Katie MacAlister. It good so far.

    Hugs, Danette
