NYC was amazing. Great things happened. I’m tired, but I wanted to share this press release my son’s choral director sent out about his competition. I promise more details later.
Earlier this spring, two Central High School singers competed in the Classical Singer High School competition at the regional level. These auditions were held on college campuses throughout the country. At each regional audition a small group of students was selected for the “Second Round” of auditions to be held in New York City in conjunction with the Classical Singer Convention. The two CHS singers selected to compete in New York were Parker Havens and Kimberly Olson, both juniors at CHS and All-State Choir Members. During the convention, both students were actively recruited by college vocal instructors from across the United States .
Parker advanced to the semi-final round (31 out of the 250 students were selected) and subsequently was selected as one of the ten finalists. The final round is a formal recital. At the conclusion of the recital, he was awarded a finalists’ scholarship. Parker is the son of Candace and Stephen Havens and studies voice with Joel Pyron. Kim, the daughter of Angelia and Dallan Olson, studies with Shannon Talley. Parker and Kim are choral music students of Leigh Ann McClure and Jennifer Randall at Central High School .
Congratulations to Kim for being in the top 250 nationally and to Parker for being in the “Top 10” among high school vocalists in the United States!
