Day One

Standard

I made it through the first day of press tour. First up is PBS, and they had some interesting panels today. My favorite was the pioneers of television. Rose Marie (Dick Van Dyke), Sid Caesar, Mickey Rooney, Carl Reiner and Red Buttons were all here. This is really awful, but I thought two of them had died, so imagine how happy I was to see they were still kickin’. (I will never admit which two, so don’t ask.) That Red and Carl were hilarious. Mickey Rooney went off the deep end a couple of times, but those two would reel him back in. Rooney was great though, and to imagine the life that man must have lived. He was a world-wide star at a very early age. Such history sat on that stage. Rose Marie has been in the business since she was three. All of them are over 80 years old. The cool thing is, if you go back and watch those shows, they stand up today and are just as relevant as they were back then.
We finished early today and managed to make a run up to Rodeo Drive. In the 10 years I’ve been coming here I never shopped there, but we did today. Bought for other people, but may go back for myself soon. There were some kickey little shoes from Costume Nation at Barneys, and an adorable purse Versace. (Can you say Candy needs to sell lots and lots o’ books?) Okay, so the best thing today, was a comment from a tv critic. His wife read the galley of “Charmed & Dangerous” and she loved it. So he decided to read it on the plane out here and he loves it too. Let’s cross some fingers for some good reviews. I’m looking forward to interviewing Bob Newhart tomorrow. He always makes me laugh. And guys who make me laugh are so sexy, I don’t care how old they are. ;-)
